Inspiration needed

Just been researching Iceland some more. Most of the coast ring road is tarmac nowadays it seems. Hmmm. May not be warm enough for Mrs Uncle Phil, but hmmm all the same. Flights and even ferries are encourgingly cheap too.

Getting there might be cheap but staying there is eye wateringly expensive - £8 for a pint!

We'd be camping anyway. I was prepared for Scandinavian prices and wouldn't be drinking for the duration!

how about the ferry to Bilbao and cycle back up through France via the Pyrenees.

then go down the Rhine bike route to the Hook of Holland. It's a very good trip.

..thats good to know...'cos therewill be a day in August when I sit down on a park bench in Basel and have to decide if I am flying home or riding home alone via hook of holland.

I think you'd regret it if you didn't do the Rhine, if only for the stretch between Bingen and Koblenz but the whole route is very good.

1000 miles is al ong way. Take your pick. Get a general map and draw your radius. Then choose, then plan; big scope ; just narrow it down. Miles is miles, experiences is experiences.

Thanks for all the ideas. It's looking like a photo finish between Ireland ('cause Mrs Uncle Phil is there already, thus saving transport costs) and Iceland.

Don't have to decide for a couple of weeks yet though...
