The Fujifilm Instax cameras are great fun my mrs has one, film is expensive but much nicer than digital pictures.
Watch out if getting a retro/vintage Polaroid second hand as they don't make the film for them anymore. Most of the instant cameras now use the Instax film.
The Lomography cameras are nice.

Yep we found that with our one. It makes you think more about the photos your taking and it makes them more special than the photos we get from our trigger happy snapping with our digital cameras/phones.

Actually I shot a few slide films last year
I love it and if it was cheaper I'd do it more often.

This may be as close to a universally applicable thread answer as this forum has ever acheived.
Your nightmare is only just starting!
Even if you agree to the principle, then will you be looking for something small, compact, or big and bulky
Do you want something trendy and fashionable, or something retro?
Of course the more compact the smaller the image, less ink and paper, so in theory cheaper!
Finally the issue for me would be the limitation and cost, but as a restricting factor. You can fill a phone with pictures and with a small printer print of select ones, whereas with one of these the limit will be 20 for a whole day
What I fail to understand though is the pricing
Fuji Instax cameras with built in printer are 2/3 of the price of the printer as a stand alone

When I left polytechnic I worked in a photographic shop for a while in the days before digital.
One day a group of women were in, one of them looking for a camera, and someone pointed to a Polaroid.
Another one of the group came out with, 'but you only get one of those for naughty photos,' instantly realised what she'd said and went bright red.
