I was riding along dodging th espeeding lunatics as usual when I saw a police officier with a hairdryer flag down a speeding car. Behind the officier was a group of small kids (around 6-8 years old with a teacher (I assume) all in hi vis jackets.
The peasant driver was escorted by the officers to the group of kids and a conversation ensued.

Now I couldnt hear what was said...but looking at the situation my best guess was that the driver was having to explain to the kids why he was speeding and risking their lives...under the guidence of the officers. he certainly wasnt getting an easy time of it thats for sure!

Assuming that this was in fact the purpose of the exercise i have to say that i think it's better than a simple 3 points and off you go approach. Maybe looking the 7 year old in the eyes might make them think next time their big toe gets twitchy.

Very intresting tatic, Bigtallfatbloke. And like you I also think that this might work better then 3 points.

This does assume the premise that these people care more about other peoples children than they do about their own lives. I don't share your faith unfortunately.

What a good idea.Might suggest this to our School.Fed up of seeing drivers using mobiles whilst on the School run.Along King Lane main road.Which has four schools feeding off it.

Now that is interesting.

Another thing, if your caught using a mobile whilst driving i feel you should a get a 6month ban straight away !

IMO they should make them look the 7 year old in the eye, and then give them 3 points for good measure:evil:

The law needs to start seeing driving as a privilege not a right - dangerous driving, or a revoked licence should incur a penalty of more than a year's ban - perhaps long term bans (5 yrs+).

I thought it was an excellent bit of policing, good for the kids, good for the motorist in the long run. Just up the road from me is a tree, planted as a memorial to a little girl killed by a speeding car driver on a zebra crossing outside the school. There are always fresh flowers at its base. I think the local speeders would do well to visit it .

I fully agree with the above, shame seems to be a powerful weapon. I also agree that driving is definitely a privilege and not a right.

However, where I used to live there was a wee memorial to a girl knocked over and killed by a speeding police car...so it's not just silly members of the public that indulge in dangerous driving. However, I guess that's a separate issue.
