Heres an App for you to get, download BOX it is a file sharing app like dropbox and at the moment they are giving 50GB free storage for life.

Thanks for that.

Yebbut this thread is for shallow folk fool enough to be drawn to nice shiny apple flavoured things, some of which do actually work. For a bit.

Is it possible to get Silverlight to work on Android devices such as that Galaxy Tablet?

I'll rephrase that ... obviously it is possible - I'm damn sure that an offer of $100,000,000 would persuade somebody to make it happen! ;) ... is there currently a way of getting Silverlight-based websites to work properly on Android devices? I am now using Eurosport Player to watch pro cycling and that uses Silverlight.

No doesn't seem to be. Netflix uses Silverlight, but have their own Android app. There seem to be various rumours that Silverlight (or the Linux version Moonlight) will be coming to Android, or that Silverlight is being killed off. Neither of these seem to be true! Apparently though some video streaming services have been dropping Silverlight in favour of HTML5 because of the lack of Silverlight on Android.

Anyway, none of that really helps you. Ipad has a Eurosport Player App though:biggrin: , so as it stands right now if you wanted to stream the cycling to a tablet you'd have to go Apple.

Thanks. If I buy a tablet it will be an Android-based model - I'll stick to using my laptop to watch the cycling for now!

No, haven't bothered with a screen protector. Maybe I should but I don't want to reduce the sensitivity or sharpness of the screen - I've never used a screen protector so maybe there are good ones out there that you don't even know you're using?

Yeah its just finding the right one, I just got the genuine HTC screen protectors for my Desire S and I couldnt believe it only took a couple of mins to fit no bubbles and the screen still works just as it did before and only £3.60 for a pack of 2 from amazon

Don't have a tablet but had an i(can't)phone 3gs and it drove me totally nuts. Dropped calls galore...great as a device, awful as a phone. I've been using a HTC Desire HD for just over a year now and it's bullet proof. Not one dropped call, apps are great from the Android market and the Satnav is excellent. Bike apps are good on it too. The phone is quick and sleek......would never go back to Apple.
I always smile at this type of post, sorry to pick on yours, as it misunderstands the consumer. I've had an iPhone 3GS and now a 4S. We have six more 4's in the business and I've yet to hear a moan about the iPhone.

My wife has my old 3GS and it is the ONLY piece of technology she never complains about - my wife is absolutely crap with any form of technology - because iPhone simply works all the time. That is the beauty of Apple products.

Can I suggest you may have had a faulty one and it's just as likely you could buy a faulty Android device. How this is resolved reflects on the service quality of the retailer not the product.

When it's time to upgrade software it just happens.

On the other hand if I want to use Android I have to understand Moonlight, Silverlight, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich etc. I honestly thought people were taking the piss the first few times I read these names which I presume apply to software of some sort.

The big issue with Android is it appears very complex and the reason why iPhone wipes the floor with it for many consumers is Apple products work, out of the box, time after time after time. I have utterly zero interest in a product or supplier which expects me to chase after the latest Banana Cherry Milkshake when the competition just delivers the software to my device.

Many people I know love Apple for its simplicity and are put off any other devices because if their perceived complexity.

From my iPhone I have everything and access to everything I need at the touch of a button. Why would I buy another product which constantly requires an upgrade to Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding when I can simply have a software or operating system delivered to me when it's available.

Android, sadly as competition is good, failed to position itself correctly in the marketplace by appealing to the relatively small market of more technically minded consumers. Apple has made itself vastly popular by supplying simple, reliable devices for which people will pay a premium. Apple understand the consumer is relatively uninformed and will therefore pay huge premiums for reliabilty.

Just like Blackberry, great device, had one on trial for a week. Total failure as the buttons are too small and complex for a middle-aged man with no interest in needing a magnifying glass to be able to view the keyboard!!!

I always remember the day a young woman visited the office and was gobsmacked to find the owner (66) Facetiming with his grandson (7). She'd heard about it, has a 4S but never seen FaceTime used. The young lady still talks about this a year later!!

At home our laptop gets used perhaps once a fortnight when prior to iPhone it was on every night!

Now who got it right?
My OS upgrades come without me having to hunt for them.

I've met many Apple users who criticise the opposition yet clearly have little knowledge of it. But then, that's the strategy of aPplE.
Absolutely correct but surely it's the opposition that is at fault by it's collective failure to market the product correctly?

Try telling my wife she needs to wait for Ice Cream Sandwich 3.09 or whatever. She'd either laugh or glaze over.

Seriously bad marketing in my view. Clearly a great product because lots of people like it but millions of others pay a premium of what, 30-50%, for something which gives them all they need and is marketed as simple to use.

My criticism of Android is the failure to market not its technical ability, though I freely admit I know nothing of Android's technology. The manufacturers tell me how great the product is but leave me wondering if I will be able to deal with the software. Apple doesn't.

Well I dont have any problem with having to go after any software updates on any of my android devices, when they are available I simply get a notification that the update is ready to install then it installs ............. no big drama no problem it is no more complicated then that. I think you are getting confused with the people who like to root their phones any choose what version of android to install today just like there are people who like to jailbreak there iPhones.

Lets not talk about silly names .................... Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion ............ really :tired:

I can see that people who have more interest in messing around with gadgets get drawn toward Android, but that is because it is more flexible and you are able to do more things with it because you dont have Apple stood in the backgound wagging its finger telling you that you cant do the stuff you want to do on it.

I dont buy the argument that Apple products are more realiable than other products for the simple fact there is basically no difference between, for instance, a Macbook and a PC Laptop other than the OS they are running, a fancy case and the fact that the Apple costs twice the price. I repair computers and I get both PC's and Apples in for repair the only difference it that if I was to use Apple parts they would be much more expensive that OEM parts. They are both made out of the same components and both use the same Intel CPU's.

The same goes for the iPhone it is not some miracle of modern science it is just a smart phone it just happens to run a different OS to the others and Apple keeps a tighter hold on what can be put on it, and that can be both a good thing and a bad thing, it can stop rogue programs messing it up but it can also lead to less choice for the user.

The other thing that annoys me is when Apple come out with the latest innovation ............... except it isnt .......... Siri is that not just Vlingo with a different name .......... iCloud sounds a lot like Dropbox or Sugarsync or whatever other internet syncing app you want to mention to me

On a final note I dont want this post to come over as me having a go Im not but as someone who has worked in the computer/electronics industry their whole working life I just wanted to make those points and I have no problem at all with anyone buying whatever products they like, but I just like to make sure before that before they do so they actually get the facts about those products first not just the sale bulls**t that these companies tell you to get you to buy their products.

Well I started the thread, and i gave mine to the mrs and went back to my old Intel Centrino powered IBM X31 with Windows XP with 512k memory.

Borrowed an Ipad, then went back to my HP DM-1 11.6 inch subnotebook. I find the handy built-in stand that doubles as a keyboard very useful. As is the ability to do more than Apple permit me to do. I like the fact I can plug in my SD cards from my camera and transfer my photos for a start, 3 usb ports and flash is still a necessary evil.

Thin is of course nice but like the Macbook Air, it isn't that important in practice. Overall footprint is if you try and use it on plane for example.

I can't see the reason for the excitement - an ipad allows you to do all the things you did before in a different way, some better with the touch screen, other far worse due to lack of a keyboard. If it really does "change your life" as some claim, I think the questions run deeper than a piece of technology.

I remain unmoved by Apple products (wife has iphone 4 I have an ipdo touch) maybe I^ve been around technology too long, perhaps I'm just odd or maybe the clapping and cheering morons every time a tedious update is announced simply put me off.
