Is anybody else using Linux?

I've just installed Linux on my old laptop and I'm amazed how fast it is. I'm going to install it on my new laptop as well as soon as the guarantee runs out. I prefer it to Windows 10. There aren't any swirling circles, it just works instantly.

Yes I use Linux alongside windows on my laptop (dual boot) Linux is great for data recovery among other things and as you say, it is fast
I would be wary of replacing the entire operating system with Linux as sometimes you can struggle finding drivers, I would just install Linux alongside windows and just boot to Linux at startup.

Ubuntu is slow these days in my opinion - it's got bloated as it's got older. Like me.

I have Xubuntu on my laptop which I use daily. It's great. I ha Lubuntu on an older laptop and it was very quick an reliable. I'd go for that in an old or low powered laptop - it's not pretty but it works well.

boot to Linux at startup.
How do you do this?

...and if I did want to try it out, what would you suggest for this spec (and no great techability):

@swee'pea99, Go to this link http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop , scroll to the bottom of the second page and choose, Not now, take me to the download ›

Select 32 bit download, prior to install it will ask if you wish to replace or install within windows, choose install within windows.
Allow the install to complete then your system will re-boot and you will be given the choice of operating system to boot to, windows or ubuntu.

Thanks a lot. Apologies for my stupidity, but 'the second page'? How do I get to the second page? Is it 'find alternative downloads'?

Thanks for that, but as per, it's not working for me. Download turns out to be an ISO file. What do I do with this? Google it. End up downloading and installing a program that tells me when it's unpacked, copy all files to a different folder. Won't copy files. Try to run from within existing folder: starts but then stalls, with warning messages about not being able to download some iso component. Etc. Just like the last time I tried this Linux business. I'll stick with XP I think.

Just get a Linux CD of ebay. They start at about a pound and are completely legal:
