Is being tall a good thing?

I believe the extra cardiovascular strain supposedly shortens your life expectancy.

A very experienced and long serving male nurse once said to me that you rarely see tall and heavy old men as their hearts pump harder than others,so they wear out quicker. Before anyone shouts me down, take it up with him not me as i'm only quoting what he said.

As I mentioned in a previous post, there definitely are extra health risks to being fat AND tall - LINK.

I was diagnosed with shortness last January:rolleyes: when i went for a bone density scan. "Sorry to tell you Mr Accy but i'm afraid you're no longer a 6 footer. You're now only 5ft 11inch"!! . I must say though that it hasn't really bothered me as i still seem to stand above most people around here. For example, i went out with a walking group yesterday. I found that i was the tallest by a good few inches. Also being very slim ( I'm10 stone exactly) makes you look taller,so i've been told.:shy:

I am 5’7” and known as ‘the dwarf’ by my much taller cousins. Still taller than sis or youngest cousin though. I am adopted and Bio Ma was not quite 5’ but Bio Pa 6’3”
Chap I am seeing is 6’2” and properly built so I am “tiny” apparently. His height is an advantage, he says but he can’t fit in a glider, which annoys him so said that he wishes that he was a couple of inches shorter.

Indeed as 6' 2" I'm not used to looking upwards in the UK. On recent cycle tours in the Netherlands, this was a common practice.

One of the lads that used to play in my son's youth band is 6ft 8. The girl on the instrument next to him was under 5ft. Watching them walk on stage one after the other never got any less funny!

Is 6'-6'2" even tall nowadays? At my peak (!) I'd have heading towards 6'2", now I am a little under 6'1", by the time I gave up coaching junior football, many of my under 16 team were taller than me.

My grandfather and father were 5'8", my Mum's father was 5'6" I must have got lucky. But I have an elder 5'7" son and a 6' (still growing) son, the shorter is not happy about his height at all, it pains me, I never wanted to be shorter than 6'.

When we tour in Spain, nobody looks at me but they gawp at my 6'5" cousin.

I once saw a Zappa tribute band called Wagga Jawaka... they had a five piece horn section consisting of various heights between 5'2"ish and 6'+ ...odd thing is, as each player got taller, their horns got smaller so the six footer was playing the tiny alto sax and the shortest was playing the baritone. Whether this was by accident or design i'll never know.

6ft 3in here .

Shorter ladies seem to like my height . Which is one downside ..

Mrs Sub loves my height ... which is an upside .

Sadly clothes makers seem to think you must be a stick thin person at that height.

I am not . I have rather wide shoulders and a large chest . Which makes getting shirts fun ...

Height is a funny thing. I'm 6'1", which I consider pretty unremarkable, but my pal Col is 6'3" and is referred to as "Hightower".

Tallest guy I know is Steve. 6'10". None of his clothes fit and he's rubbish at basketball. Ruth, his wife, is around 5'5" and I often wonder how they have sex, which is weird but understandable I think.

I'm only 5.7 and would love to be tall. As a man, i would feel a lot safer if i was over 6 foot, especially when on a night out or walking home alone etc.

I watched a programme years ago about a lad who was nearly 7 foot and had to forego his apprenticeship as a mechanic because of back problems from stooping under the bonnet. That must be very frustrating.

Not ideal for climbing, but brain being closer to the sun can give you a tactical advantage. Note how the top part of the cap is removed to improve reception.
