Is Bridge a sport?

My own personal differentiation would be whether you practice or train for a particular activity. I did hear another definition from a foot ball bod which was a game is something you can do in ordinary shoes.

Like someone said up thread. This is all about being able to claim funding.

According to the Bridge Union it is, also recognised by the IOC. In which case this opens the door for a host of others, chess for instance, then the Monopoly and Scrabble players will demand equal status.
From a personal point of view I think the world has gone properly bonkers. I don't think the "game" of golf is a sport yet it makes a debut in the next Olympics. Maybe we as a society have given up on getting people fit and healthy and to make them feel better about themselves they can now compete at "sports" where being overweight, smoking and drinking are not a bar to participation.

Chess has already become recognised by the IOC

They talked about this on the radio last night. Apparently rambling is classed as a sport. OK it can be very physical climbing those hills, but it isn't competitive so it isn't a sport surely?

games are where it's competetive, sports typically not - do keep up

My over simplistic view.....

It cannot be a sport unless you need to change your shoes to participate.

To be an Olympic sport, winning the Olympic event should be the pinnacle of the sport
