New chain started chain sucking on my worn inner chainring so fitted new chain ring. Its now sucking on the big (50T) ring. Rather than buy a new ring is there a case for filing the drive edge of the teeth on the big ring to extend its life ?

There is a case - it would save you money! :okay:

There is also a question - would it work?

Yes, there is a case for it. If you were on a tour or a multi-stage race and your chainring starts sucking, you would dress the tips with the file on your Leatherman. That's just a get-home fix though. Those filed chainrings are now out-of-pitch with the chain and will accelerate your chain wear considerably.
