I've refused to do that. 17yr old is going to a house party. I'll drop him off but it's up to him to get himself home. He's sensible and capable so I have no concerns. I'm more likely to come a cropper than him tbh

Standard Saturday night for me. Cuff a good few bottles of home brew in the garden shed and then out onto the pavement to shout abuse at passing cars.

Robbie Williams might not be the most likeable character, but he's a brilliant showman so I reckon the programme will be worth watching.

Theoretically, we could walk the 20 minutes or so to Ramsgate and watch the fireworks over the harbour.

In practice, I suspect we will have fallen asleep on the settee about 10pm, stagger off to bed, and then get woken up by the fireworks.....

From a historical perspective and not a very scientific one, I've lived on the same street on a very average estate for 30 years. Parties were par for the course years ago, any time of the year, there were always one or two in the street but especially on NYE. Slowly it's stopped...No-one bothers any more, it's very rare you'll hear one.
Probably because modern life means people are so transient nowadays, no-one gets that friendly with neighbours anymore.

I believe the programme is 'as live' - recorded a few hours earlier.

That may be part of the problem, it lacks spontaneity when everyone is pretending it's the run up to midnight, when it's actually the run up to 8pm.

We are off to my sister's - they moved in early this year and were married last month. Family doo, which will be fun as we are in "The Bar Shed". My brother-in-law is a site manager, but was a joiner by trade. He's built a rather large, insulated and plastered, double glazed shed from scratch. This has a good 6 foot long bar in one corner, large TV, darts board, sofa, bar stools. Should be a good night. It's taken him some months to build.
