The shimano ones seem to be well thought of in the reviews. I like my diadoras, but as I said, they haven't lasted well so wouldn't recommend them. In answer to your question, I guess they don't get the problem because they're properly sealed - most shoes let in water through the slots or bolt holes in the sole. That said, I tend to find cold toes more of a problem than cold from the cleat/ pedal area.

I bought Gaerne Boots a few years back when Wiggle stocked them. They didn't have UK distribution for a while, but now Hotlines are doing it and CRC stock the Eskimo and Polar models.

Anyway, they were expensive and the sizing is slightly on the small side. But they are well made, very waterproof, durable (approx four years use) and warm (toes were chilly this morning, but the weather was exceptional). Gaerne used to get very good reviews in the MTB press, so it is nice to see them back in the UK again. The price is a bit ;) though!
