Is it possible for a car tyre to catch light?

Friend of mine used to drive fuel tankers. One night shift he was going flat out downhill towards Prestwick Airport with 4000 gals. of aviation fuel when he saw a light behind him. Realised his back tyres were on fire so headed for the first available off road spot. Then he noticed the petrol pumps! Shifted pretty quick. Fortunately his on board extinguishers coped. Cause was a stuck brake overheating.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
What, catch light like a solar panel? Don't think so. Oh, sorry, catch alight!
Ob pedantry: black things do catch, and absorb, light. That's why they're black.

(Do I really have nothing better to do than point out issues with posts from 7 years ago?)
