Is Rhyl a toilet or what?

Well, is it?

OK so that is a bit of a misleading title for this thread because it is already being discussed here.
What I was really wondering is; can the matter be decided in the comparative sanity of the Cafe without getting bogged down in the space of 6 posts by bickering, splitting of hairs, and big words, a la CA&D :cuppa:.

I am abstaining because I have never been there.

Yes, been there once for a week's holiday many years ago, I didn't manage to stay the week. I would never go back.

Ha, ha......had to go and look that up out of curiosity. Good one. I wonder if mine has a name? I have a thing about bones, especially the thought of them breaking. I have felt nauseous and actually fainted once at someone describing a bad break and Henrik Larsenn's leg break made me feel sick to the stomach.

Apparently:
There isn't a term specifically for the fear of breaking bones. The fear of being injured in general is "traumatophobia"
Can you tell I'm a little bit bored today, housebound by the weather .
That break of Larsen's leg was a real sickener, even for a supporter of the opposition, as I was then. Can't bring myself to support the Newco and all the nonsense attached to it. The RFC I knew no longer exists .

Not a huge footie fan but I keep an eye on how the Perth Saints are doing.

Brightened up here but blowing a hoolie. All I have done is sat around on the computer and stuffed my face the last few days. Going to pay for it!

As always, polls of this type serve no purpose other than to get an opinion from an unrepresentative sample of the population.

For what it's worth, Rhyl in places, is no different to other seaside resorts that I have visited that have seen better times. The worst squalor and deprivation that I have encountered was in Merthyr Tydfil and the outskirts of Bishop Auckland. Both had pockets of housing that had visually appeared to have failed to meet the lowest standards of habitable accomodation the youngsters appeared to be uncared for and were uncouth. I was taken aback by what I saw as it was worse than what I imagined poverty to look like.

It is a real toilet, I went there two yesrs ago on a union conference, never to set foot in the place again. Roughest I've experienced for a holiday place.

Rhyl is a bit run down in places, but there are some good bits. It's finally having some money spent on it after years of neglect.

The seafront has improved, lots of new paving, a new bridge over the harbour, a kids paddling pool etc. good cycle route along the front too. Bad side is the land towards the west of the town has been derelict for years, and there is finally plans going through for a retail park. Some of the big stores moved out in the last 12 months due to a new retail park in Prestatyn.

It's one of those places that was neglected for a long time. Travel out, and it's a nice part of North Wales. We are in the area most weekends from March to November, but don't stay near Rhyl. We do visit it about once a month. The kids like the penny arcades.

Sad to hear the comments about Rhyl .... I spent a few years in Rhyl and the surrounding areas when I was young (parents caravan in towyn)
Rhyl was very busy even affter they built the sun centre on the front in late 70s early 80s
I have been back in the last 10 years and things have changed .... would have guessed by a lack of visitors/money investment.... There are worst Places I could name and shame.

I voted yes on the vast experience of having visited once in the 1960s! So a well founded opinion!

We arrived at 3.30pm on a fine summer Saturday, to find everywhere was closing, including the ice cream vendors.
