Want my cake and eat it but can't get an extra bike just for leisure rides

Currently have 9 speed Tiagra 50/34 compact with 12-23 cassette. I prefer the jumps in this cassette but would like the option of the extreme gears of an 11-25 again.

My old 7speed mtb has a Miche triple 52/40/30 which i've always enjoyed but, unfortunately, changing to the Tiagra triple, which is 50/39/30, would appear waste of time.

Am i going to have to bite the bullet and go 10 speed or am i being blonde and missing something?:scratch:

I spend 90% of daily commute between 14-17 in 50 chainring.
The 11-25 cassette jumps 13,15,17 so loses 2 of the 4 gears i use every day.
Would like to gain more flexibilty for leisure rides but without sacrificing daily ride where i do the most miles.

It seems that what you really want (other then a "play" bike ) is to have your personal selection of cassette rings to choose, so you can mix-and-match according to your fitness, ride, wind direction ;) etc.

You could see what sized rings you want, which cassette has the 'other ones' you want and, as long as the rings are removable, bingo - you can mix-and-match. :wahhey:

My SRAM Apex cassette has removable rings, bar the biggest 3, so it might work ...
