is there a case for a folders sub-forum....

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Trends wise, I think there is a case for moving Fixed and Singlespeed into its own main category now as there seems to have been a resurgence of interest over the past couple of years

Give it another year or so and the fad will blow over.

I don't think the special interests forum is popular enough to split. And I say that as a fan of both hub gears and folders.

What - apart from their foldiness - is so different about them?

Cheers,
Shaun

lots of non standard parts compared with the big boys....

wacky gearing on the small wheeled ones....

lots of effort to maintain the integrity of the fold when adding bits....

criticality of things like cable lengths that no one cares about on standard diamond frames....

their compliance with rail companies cycle policies....

relative rarity compared with the other sort....

lots less in common with non-folders than fixed and singlespeed bike have and they have a special space....

I could go on....

That'll teach you for not buying a superior Mezzo ;-)

Now I could be wrong, but a quick glance at Mezzo's in shops and on the interwebs suggests they have plenty of non standard bits.... it is what makes them so visually appealing.
