... When you think, 'ok, I'm fit enough now, I'm happy with my weight so I'm just going to maintain this level.'?

Because the fitter I get, the fitter I want to be! :hyper: and the harder I push myself. I'm to the stage now where I'm good at making sure I don't over do it, I have a much better understanding of my body.. Because of that, my goals just keep extending!

I can't get enough!

I think I agree with you however if I reach an appeasing weight I'm not so hell bent on pushing to far as it kind of becomes obsessive and more like 'training' than enjoying the riding.

I have a weight figure in mind personally. I might not get there but I will try. If the loss ever effected my cycling then I would stabilise or gain a touch. As for fitness I want to be able to climb well and look forward to the day when I can go for a ride with my brother and drop him with style on his regular hill. That would make my day.

I don't know about fitness, but recently I have reached a stage that instead of trying to push myself, I prefer to ride slower and admire the scenery.

Perhaps old age/maturity is starting to kick in! Anyone want to discuss pipes and slippers?

I prefer to claim that the more frequent stops on my bike runs are due to my increasing interest in scenic photography.:whistle:
 
I've just reached the point where my weight is no longer decreasing, my average speeds are no longer increasing, and I feel it If I try to push a bit harder. Itsa bit disappointing in some ways, but in others I have to remind myself that I'm fitter than I was last year, over two stones lighter, thinner, and generally a lot healthier. I'd like to lose a bit more and have a body like David Beckham, but quite simply, I don't think I'm willing to put in the amount of effort that would take to get, and maintain!

I'll just keep plodding along with what I've been doing and be happy I guess!

Same here Ive nothing to prove I dont see the point in going on a strict training/diet regime to compete in audax and sportives. I dont race and even if I did I would do it for the taking part and experience more than the winning - I cycle 140+ miles a week and eat what I want with loads of chocky bickies thrown in I dont see much point in changing that given I cycle for fun not to grow my di*k
 
I'd also like my cycling to stay as something I do because I enjoy it, not a necessary evil like 'the gym'. (quick addendum - I am aware some people enjoy the gym. I however am not one of those people!)

If there's someone faster than me I'm not fit enough. I've not won the TdF & broken every world record... yet (yeah I know I'll be dreaming to my grave ;) )

Interestingly, studies have shown that people who start an endurance sport (such as cycling) just to lose weight are statistically very likely to return to a sedentary lifestyle within 5 years. Those who find other motivation within the sport - like racing - tend to persevere; indeed the motivation to compete is much more powerful than the motivation to lose weight, which in turn is greater than the motivation to maintain a given state, which let's be honest, is hardly inspiring..

I can say with absolute honesty, that for me weight control is now a mildly interesting byproduct of trying to find ways to optimize my fitness to be more competitive in races. And racing feels nothing like going to the gym.

Do you seriously think anyone cycles to grow their di*k?????

I didn't start to lose weight, or get fit though. I started to save money on commuting to work by selling my car, and found I really enjoyed it and began cycling on my days off too! The weight loss and fitness gain were happy by products!
