I work in the manufacturing industry in toolmaking. TBH, I don't want anything we make to be exported to China.
We are streets ahead in terms of manufacturing quality and design of what our European customers have received from companies doing the same as us who are operating in China.
The bottom line is that if a toolmaker does their job properly then the finished product which it produces will be of the same quality and be salable (sp) on the world markets, which in turn jeopardises jobs back in the UK of our UK customers.
The government should be helping investment in manufacturing facilities in the UK so we can regain our position of a small, but substantially better producer of quality goods.
Maggie and all subsequent government chose the easy option when they stated that we could rely on the banking industry to support us. Now the banks are moving to India (talking to their call centres are a joke) and manufacturing has all but gone to the far east - oh and the bankers have proven themselves to be totally self serving self-gratification artists who have stitched up the UK with their greed and incompetence
The problem is if the government allow manufacturing to fail in the UK, all of the skills in this sector we have to service our home markets and those on the continent will just be lost
