maybe you think its a good idea to drive 40 tonnnes of lorry having a phone convo on handsfree. I think theres more on here and in the country that have the opposite view.

Actually, I know of several of my colleagues who work night shift driving up and down the M40/M6/M74 between London and Glasgow, and talking to each other on their HANDS FREE phones is the only thing that keeps them awake. I have done the odd night shift driving artics myself, and I know where they are coming from. Falling asleep through boredom is a very real danger.

No; I used to drive for an air freight company running between airports. Why? Oh I see, HGV driver = Numpty? I am also a retired Police Officer if that helps any. So believe me, there are a lot worse things going on on our roads than people having conversations on their phone, whether hand held or not!

can tell you are retired police , making assumptions and reading things I haven't said .

Aye. I'm starting to understand why van drivers run down cyclists.

Because the cyclist told the van driver he was using he mobile phone whilst driving, you can understand why van drivers run down cyclists.

Do you feel then that this is a good enough reason to mow someone down with a vehicle?

I would be most grateful if you could explain your comment? As passing incident that involved a white van and a cyclist and the cyclist was killed I find these type of not funny comments offensive and in bad taste.

I didnt snap at him about it. I might have had a stern voice at the start, but as I knew I wouldnt get anywhere with him, I just decided to let it go. He hadnt posed any danger to me at that point (he got a little close to me when I stopped) so there wasnt any reason for me to shout at him.
He didnt seem annoyed, and when I went through the traffic lights ahead, which was holding the traffic up, he stopped on amber whilst I went through.

i thought people used cycle cams in case they had an accident - not to film people as they rode their bikes and reported every incident they recorded - plus isn't it against the law to film somebody without them knowing in the first place - unless your doing police or HMRC surveillance

some of you people need to get a grip and just go out and enjoy riding your bike, instead of trying to find reason's to film people and posting them on youtube

It's been said many times before, but I really fear that it is just a matter of time until we are reading a post on here that Matthew has come across someone who seriously took umbrage at being filmed and spoken to in a condescending manner, and has assaulted him.

Matthew, please take a friendly piece of advice here, from someone who spent 19 years in the Police: Someday it will happen. Someone WILL assault you, and the type of person I am referring to won't really care if it is all on film or not. Going to jail does not deter these people. I know you are a well intentioned kind of guy, but for your own sake just go out and enjoy your bike; stop getting so wound up by what other people are doing .

Personally. I would e-mail the company and just inform them that you saw one of their drivers using a hand held mobile phone whilst driving. and tell them just that.

If an employee is expected to use a phone in a vehicle, then the company must provide a hands free device. The company and the employee both have to take reasonable steps to drive safely on the road.

Just because he was doing it in slow moving traffic and there wasn't any real danger, that doesn't mean he doesn't do it in conditions which are much worse.

If they try to be arsey about it, then you can send them a still from the video of the driver holding the phone.

i'm sure it would be if there was minors or youths involved - would it not???
Is it ok for a parent to take pictures of their child in the playground? what about if someone else's child gets into the photo?

Of course anyone making a video is a bloody pervert.
