Did you take that with a pinhole camera?
When did it last have leaves and how did it look.
A few leaves on it now. Beautiful blossom years ago, two maybe three?
One budding apple. Not fruited properly in longer.
You could trim some of the branches to encourage new growth, then see how. it comes along next season.
What if I hacked off all the lower branches, encouraged some height?
Yes, there are 3 branches at the bottom that need to come off. Cut close to the trunk and parallel to it so the cut is vertical and it'll callous over. Then thin out the higher branches too.
I would start again with a new tree in a different spot. You can't polish a turd (even with 30 years of horticultural experience!).
Have you asked it?
Yes, but is it a turd is my question.
The bark looks like it's been scraped off at the base, don't know if that means anything.
It was lovely in its day; beautiful blossom and - I think - russet apples, were delicious.
Looks like an ex tree to me.
Use it for hanging up some Christmas lights and buy your apples in the Sainsbury's
Jeeze, it's only October and you are already talking about Christmas...........pleeeeease stop.
