Is your car any good for fitting bikes and 'stuff' in?

We have a Passat estate which my bike goes in the back with the seats folded down, and even I can put it in. However it's showing it's age at the moment, and we keep getting things go wrong (latest being we have to carry around coolant and the stuff for the steering so we can top up when we can get our hard to pin down mechanic to find and replace the broken parts). Mr Summerdays is thinking about getting a smaller car as the kids get older, but I'm not convinced as the moving stuff to Uni takes up lots of space.

No problem getting the bike in mine, I just have to watch I don't scuff the seats. BTW I took the liberty of borrowing Rocky's butler!

I'm presuming it's not just the Uni run, but the bulk bits (unless you end up with accommodation that kicks them out at Christmas) are only a couple of times a year so if it is just Uni, you could save a lot with something smaller and use a small portion of that saving on renting something big when it's needed.

Peugeot 508 estate 2L diesel for us.
13 plate with 38,000 miles. Comparatively cheap to buy. All the whistles and bells.
We regularly chuck a couple of bikes in it, innit!

Well camping etc, but the bike does get put in the back of the car up to 5 days a week. As for Uni it is only the once a year now apart from the fact the isn't an overlap between this year's house and next year. (A one day non overlap to move to the other end of the street, I'm hoping they can come to some deal with the new landlord or their current one.)

My Toyota Auris was only bought after the salesman let me try my largest trike in the back. With the rear seats flat it just rolls in.

I bought my Auris because of it's roominess for 5 people and the ability to drop the rear seats and get several bikes in.

I've had asmall/medium car before (Leon) and it just wasn't big enough. DD was only 3 and there wasn't enough leg room behind us. And the boot was only big enough for a cottage/hotel holiday - no chance the camping equipment would go in! Maybe we take too much stuff?

Defender 110. Fit anything in it, go anywhere, selfservice and repair, lots of parts available, and as there is only one pertol option, a V8 it is. Got a 300tdi though and insurance this year is £180.00 fuly comp.

I had a 110Tdi ('300')Hard-Top, & that was ultra-capacious inside, spoilt only by the rear-door, plus a few years (& other Land Rovers) later a 110 'Heritage', which had the Td5

Skoda Octavia estate with the 1.4TSI engine. Big big boot, comfortable and can achieve 50mpg on long runs. I reckon 3 bikes would go in with their wheels off and still get 4 people in it.
The other that springs to mind is the Skoda Roomster 1.2TSI. Remove 1 rear seat and I think you might squeeze 3 bikes and 3 people in. 50mpg economy and cheap to run.

Briliiant car, I far prefer it to the '04 plate' Mondeo Ghia TDCi that SWMBO had, or her dads Mondeo TDCi (2009), barring the fact that they both had a bit more torque

another vote for the c max from here we replaced our picyourass with it . whilst its not so big inside i have had 3 x road bikes in with fr wheels off and room for 3 people .

I still believe it was the 2nd worst car we've ever had, worst was a Fiat Tempra estate, so that allows you appreciate to my thoughts on the C-Max................

Absolutely the best thing about the 'blue-van', as it was called??....................................... LED tail-lights!!!!!!!!!
