Just noticed that they are now doing an adults Islabike. Now I am the only person in our family with a BSO and this is the price bracket I would be looking at. I wouldn't be doing anything more than pootling along with the kids along the towpath, or round lakes and redways. Does it look like it would be okay for that job? Or would that money be better spent elsewhere? I will be better with just something simple, would not need to be anything else really. I don't like the colour's, but price wise it's good for me.

Can anyone give me an opinion on this? It would be greatly appreciated as I don't know anything about bikes/gears etc really. Please have in mind that my useage would be for pootling about with the kids at maybe 7-12mph max right now and not involving alot of hills, not for me anyway(bad knees).

Thanks Crackle for the honest opinion, is what I need. As long as it's not a waste for the money they are selling at and will do the ob I need it to do then all is good. If someone thinks I may get a better bike/value for the same price then please do let me know.

I know Islabikes are fantastic, recently purchased a Cnoc 16 and a Luath 26, but maybe a little concerned with them now venturing into adult bikes, I kinda liked them being a specialist kids bike company.

Will you be using it offroad? If not, something like the Specialized Sirrus range would be perfect for road to forestry track use. If you are then you need to move in a more mtn bike direction.

I think the Isla 29 is a twist shift, which I'm not keen on and they've gone for simplicity on the gearing front which leaves you with a fairly reduced range of gears. Fine for accompanying the kids but if you ever go beyond that, you may find it lacking. You may even find it lacking with the kids, they're surprisingly fit, kids and use gears we adults with our larger mass can't. Plus sides are a nice light frame with the ability to fit guards and a rack and nothing really to criticise. You wouldn't go wrong if you bought it for riding with the kids but for £400, there's quite a few options.
