I wonder how the residents of Butt Hole Road (a real place) pronounce the name? Bute Holay Road?

Thank you, Hyacinth

What's wrong with bank holidays? I like them.

I don't like the way they tend to sneak up and catch me unprepared, but apart from that, I'm all for them.

Sorry if it's already been mentioned, but according to reports the government allowed pubs to extend their opening hours to show the match, allowing for extra time and penalties should that happen, which it eventually did. The game was over at about 19:45 so why did pubs need extra opening hours when even after the anticipated extra-time and penalties the game was over way before the usual Sunday pubs closing time.

Presumably the people annoyed at the (very unlikely) prospect of an extra holiday are retired?

And grumpy about anything and everything.

As an employer I don’t want another holiday that we give away and have to pay for.

Who gives a hoot how the BBC or anyone else pronounces Basle, Basel or Basil. I don’t don’t know anything about Swiss dialects but they use at least two languages. Multiply the number of dialects by the number of languages gives you the number of locally accepted pronunciations.

Instead of whining consider celebrating the achievement.

At least the idea kind of made sense, unlike extending opening hours for VE Day back in May...

I wonder if anywhere actually bothered? I doubt it, given the general antipathy towards women's football.

Win the World Cup and I would agree. But not for anything else.
