Think the last time i queued up to buy an item of clothing, was while slightly drunk at a Motorhead concert year before last ;-) otherwise i avoid the highstreet like the plague, unless forced to visit Ikea or B&Q!

Have you not been a to a Hollister shop. The one in trafford center always has a que outside. I dont think because its so busy, but its that dark inside, it's so you dont bump into each other. God knows how people see the clothes. God i am getting old

dark inside, is it..? i've never been inside one and won't in future either.

That was them! Hollister and the A & F shops! Unbelievable. A couple of years ago we were in Chicago about the time of the launch of some Apple PiE thing, and there were queues around the block, and big yank tv news crew vans reporting on it all! Most odd.

I was on holiday in the Med about ten years ago. It was too hot for me so I bought a wide brimmed hat to keep the sun off. It was white with a huge Puma embroidered on the front. As soon as I was back in the hotel I converted the puma to a running Unicorn, by colouring in with a black marker pen, and then wore it proudly!

My Mum brought me up to reverse shop bags so their branding in on the inside. She said to me that if the shop wants her to advertise them then they should be paying her to shop there. :giggle:
My mother in law always turned Kwik Save bags inside out for the very same reason!!^_^

I read that the queues outside Hollister (and so I assume A&F) are deliberately engineered to make the place seem more desirable.

Interesting idea. It seems to be working if that is true.

I live very near Bicester Village the shopping outlet place, coach loads of Chinese, Japanese, middle eastern people spend hours at the place buying the car loads of crap no one wanted in the London shops, to take back to where it was made in the first place!

My son took me into the Hollister shop in Newcastle not long after it opened. I was astonished, I didn't realise it was a shop at all from the outside, once inside it really is dark and they use spotlights to shine a beam of light on selected items which means your eyes never become accustomed to the gloom. It also seemed to be set out like a maze (as far as I could tell in the pitch black). I blundered around for a bit then found the door.
It was like some bizarre fairground ride, queue to get in, trundle around, looking at clothes you can't see properly, in tiny sizes, with price tags you can't find or read when you do. Eventually you're allowed out, you burst back into the light and you breathe a sigh of relief  Weird.

I believe the first rule of nightclubs is turn away one in ten at the door - not for any reason, far from it. Totally at random. Just to make the others think it's some kind of desirable. Yoof psychology at its most neanderthal.

This. ^^^^^

Hate the shop, it's soo dark. Really tempted to take in a Cree U2 100 lumen torch just to wind them up - like in the sketch show by Miranda Hart.

A friend has already done that though ! Took a torch in !

I walked passed the Hollister shop again, earlier. I must have got too close, I think I set off the "old and fat" alarm.
