I haven't won the lottery but I've 'packed it all in.' I quit my job last month and am working my notice at the moment. Come 1st May, I'm a free agent with no shackles enslaving me any more. I have never lived to work, I've worked to live and now I reckon I've worked enough so while I still have the physical attributes to do it, I'm taking my time off now. My goals are to do all the Munros I have left to climb and that's more than 150. I could have carried on earning and built up a good nest-egg but by then, I may be too old to complete my list of 'must-do' activities so I'm doing it now.
You're doing it the right way Paul - good luck with it.

I did it the wrong way and packed it all in before I could really afford to do it, having cracked under the pressure of work, family and relationship stress. I have lots more free time now, but I'm permanently stressed by lack of money rather than full-time work! I'll crack the working from home thing eventually and then I'll be a happy chappy.

My first trip Colin, if you may be interested, is to try and toughen myself up a bit, the art of which I lost a long time ago, so I'm easing my way into things by taking a five-day trip around the Inn Way in the Yorkshire Dales. This is a reasonably easy thing of about 15-20 miles per day from one Dale to another but each day ends at a strategically-placed pub which offers accom and food (and beer). I reckon I'll be doing this late April.

I'd never even heard of the Inn Way, but that sounds a really interesting concept. I see that you are doing it one day quicker to make it harder!

I think I will add that to my list of things-to-do-when-I-am-fit-and-I-have-the-money! I'm fairly sure that my dicky right knee would last about 2 days at most with my current 16 stone body weight and I don't have £250+ spare which is what I imagine transport, accommodation, food and beer would cost.

Sounds fun though if the weather were okay. It would be a bit gruelling over 5 or 6 days of heavy rain!

Ah, and I see that there are Inn Ways for the Lake District, the North York Moors, Northumberland and the Peak District too - that's a month's worth of great walking!

I could certainly provide transport but not orthopaedic services, I'm afraid!

Another time perhaps! Getting my excess weight off it will make a big difference, I'm sure.

The knee is okay most of the time but walking down steep hills really gets to it.

I have steep staircases in my 125 year old house and I have to descend them crab-stylee, leading with my left leg!

What would i spend it on ?
Had this asked years ago when i lived in a far less than perfect area..
they asked me 'would you buy your house' ?
I replied 'i'd buy the whole street !!!!....and burn the frikkin lot to the ground '

Mh, when I would win in Lotto, the real big Jackpot, I would start to learn London the right meaning of different kind of flags ... but I think this is typical British, isn't it?

I have prayed to god every night for the last 10 years that I win the lottery. The other night I said I would not pray anymore as he has not answered me. At that moment a loud voice boomed and said I have heard every single one of prayers Nosaj, every single one, you are a bit of a frugal chap but please meet me half way and buy a ticket!

If I did do the lottery and won I would wait for the cheque to cash and then in all seriousness I think I would get the hell out of the UK

I'd have a major moral dilemma on my hands... because I've never bought a lottery ticket. Do I fess up, hand it all back and cause the launching of a major enquiry? Or do I keep schtum, enjoy the winnings and know the whole damned thing is rigged?

A bloke a few streets away won the jackpot the other year, he apparently bought a random ticket as he couldn't remember his usual numbers. He won on a Wednesday night when the jackpot is lower, he ended up sharing 3.5 million quid with 3 others so he got less than a million, which is nice but you'd expect more maybe.
If i won the lottery i'd be very happy but on the other hand a bit disappointed. I'm 51 so i'd be asking "why didn't you let me win when i was younger, so i could have had a good time when i was younger"?
However, from a cycling point of view i've always wanted the following......A Skoda or Fiat "team car" complete with a bike mechanic to jump out and swap my punctured wheel or swap the bike if required, and a medic(must be female and good looking any age will do as long as they meet the requirement) to give first aid if i scratch myself etc.:B) The car would of course have one of those continental sounding horns to blast other road users who get in my way. It would follow me up hills and go ahead on the declines to warn others of my forthcoming presence sounding that continental horn and flashing the warning lights along the way:becool: ! oh and i'd instruct them to pass me water bottles along the way, and drive beside me applying plasters to grazed elbows, fixing the derailleur and giving advice etc!

I stopped doing the lottery many years ago.

I had been buying tickets using the same numbers from the start and with only two £10 wins and a £100 win, I was making a huge loss. I then changed the numbers I was using and the original numbers came up 5+bonus, about £150k I missed out on.

Stopped doing it after that.
