Just a brief narrative on my training progress ...
Since 2022, I'd hardly ridden my bike, but by march this year, at the age of 76, ventured out on my first ride. A very short ride of about 7 miles.
But ignoring any common sense I started doing my hilly training loop of just over 12 miles.
And within 4 weeks, rode my first , very slow 10 and got round in 39 mins.
Since then, I've now repeated my training loop 30 times and finished 9 ten mile time trials, with my last outing just inside my age standard with a 30:32.
To date, haven't ridden more than 15 miles in a single day and just over 500 miles for the year.
My training loop consists of some hilly sections. One , Billet Hill, takes me 5 mins to climb, dropping to 6mph at times. The loop has quite a few other hills and I do most of the training on a single speed 68" gear. The hills are real strength developers. The bike has Tri bars, to get me used to the same on my TT bike..
I now get round my loop in the mid 13mph's. I ride it at TT tempo from the outset.
Just a few weeks left of our club 10's and hoping we get a favourable wind and I can break "evens".
If a miracle occurs, I'll update you again.
