Just a brief narrative on my training progress ...

Since 2022, I'd hardly ridden my bike, but by march this year, at the age of 76, ventured out on my first ride. A very short ride of about 7 miles.

But ignoring any common sense I started doing my hilly training loop of just over 12 miles.

And within 4 weeks, rode my first , very slow 10 and got round in 39 mins.

Since then, I've now repeated my training loop 30 times and finished 9 ten mile time trials, with my last outing just inside my age standard with a 30:32.

To date, haven't ridden more than 15 miles in a single day and just over 500 miles for the year.

My training loop consists of some hilly sections. One , Billet Hill, takes me 5 mins to climb, dropping to 6mph at times. The loop has quite a few other hills and I do most of the training on a single speed 68" gear. The hills are real strength developers. The bike has Tri bars, to get me used to the same on my TT bike..

I now get round my loop in the mid 13mph's. I ride it at TT tempo from the outset.

Just a few weeks left of our club 10's and hoping we get a favourable wind and I can break "evens".

If a miracle occurs, I'll update you again.

An old cycling buddy recently told me that at the age of 75 he's enlisted the help of a coach and is planning to do the Fred Whitton next year. I took a look at a few videos on YouTube to see what it was all about. Jesus. You're never too old for a challenge, eh?

Give it some beans, Sharky. You'll get down to evens. I wish you well 👍

After a very quiet four years, have started training again. An 18 week streak.

I'd forgotten how much it hurts and how tired you get. But after recovery, feels great.

How old are you if you don't mind me asking?
I should get back into running again. Maybe do a marathon for my 50th

I mentioned in the post earlier. 76 years old.

Did my first TT in 1967 and "peaked" in 1969. Have been cycling and time trialing for most years since then and have completed more than 500 events, my previous last 10 was in 2022.

Just do it. I'm 61 still riding silly distances on and off road, but I also run. Started 5k, 10k half marathon then 20 miles currently training for 2nd attempt at a full marathon. Go do it.

Sharky your old enough to know to take it easy. Your also old enough to ignore young whippersnappers as well. Don't forget to grow old disgracefully. Don't forget to take it easy as well.
