My guess would be Kalinigrad

And you'd be right! Very good!

Nice sunny day here today, finished early so went for a walk to take some pictures, will download when I'm home next week.
2 hour time difference is weird you end-up starting v. early on Kaliningrad time and finish working on UK time, but at least I have my beer!

Lots of people walking their kids home from school with the obligatory beer bottle in a brown paper bag!

Women still look amazing.:laugh::tongue::tongue:

Cheersky!

I have noted your previous posts on Kaliningrad with interest as a lot of my work is with Russia and CIS countries. Enjoy the beer, is it the local stuff ?

Yep, it's called Konigsberger and once allowed to warm-up a tad it's a very nice golden lager-beer. There's a brewery we pass on the way to the factory in the morning but I can't say I've had one from there yet. The more I come here the more I like the place, it is very grim in many many places, but thare are parts with a strange beauty when the sun shines. I have found the people here to be very likeable and a delight to work with.

Due to the Collapse of KD Avia last month, the only sensible route here is via Moscow, fly almost 4 hours east and then nearly 3 hours back west again. It's only 100 or so km from Gdansk, but then there's a 3 to 4 hour bus journey... the User482 routing :laugh: At least I can say I've seen Moscow! Had to transfer terminals which was scary, beating-off all the taxi-touts to find the transfer bus, I was helped by a lovely girl fom Irkutsk in eastern Siberia, 6 hours on from Moscow... I want to go there now! One thing of interest is when a plane touches down in Kaliningrad everybody applauds, it only happens here apparently, it's because they're very happy to be home. They're fiercely proud of their city and I think consider themselves slightly 'above' mainland Russia!

4F have you been to Russia or the CIS anr are you likely to visit in the near future?

So, I would take a 3 hour plane ride plus 3 hour bus ride. You would take a 4 hour plane ride plus 3 hour plane ride.

The User482 routing would appear to be the sensible choice...:ohmy:

I have been to Baku, Azerbaijan on numerous ocassions and really enjoy the place and planning a return next year. Also on the cards are visits to Moscow and Aktau, Kazakhstan.

I had an opportunity to work in Aktau several years ago however convincing Mrs 4F at the time that this was a good idea was met with determined resistance. hohum

No, you'd take 2 hrs max to Gdansk, then the 3 hour bus trip. I never said you wouldn't win :biggrin:. But sitting on a plane vs sitting on a bus on Russian roads, plus border controls etc, the plane seems the sleepy comfy option. There's a sleeper train from Berlin... :biggrin:
