On Wednesday I was biking down Beverley Road in Hull (for the locals) and hit a massive pothole outside Haworth Arms. I think my chain slipped, it made a bit of a racket, but then it was fine. For thirty seconds. Then it made the same noise again, and the chain fell off. It was also raining by the way, which was a nice touch. I hefted my bike onto the pavement and luckily for me this old bloke with a limp was pushing his bike past right at that moment and before I could even say anything he asked "Chain come off, has it?" and was on his knees putting it back on for me. And after he'd done it he refused a wet wipe to clean his hands, he just pulled a tissue out of his pocket and used that to clean off a thumbprint he'd left on my frame. What a gent. He said he was going to the bike shop nearby because he'd got a puncture and lets them deal with it nowadays, so I hope he got there before the heavens opened about five minutes after this happened.

(Yes, I could have put the chain back on myself. I'm not that pathetic. It was a bit of a faff with the chain guard in the way though, I reckon he did it quicker than I could have done, and it's just nice when people help you out.)

I saw one lady stopped at some lights. A gent pulled up in-between us and started talking to her, I thought 'oh great, another self centred arse trying to chat someone up at a traffic light.' but actually she hadn't put her kickstand up properly and he was explaining what would have happened if she went around a corner like that.

Chain came off my SS late last night by a bus stop and a nice man immediately popped over to give me a hand putting it back on. I was a bit breathless at the time so feel a bit bad about not being as thankful as I should have. I you are out there reading this mister helpful chap of Nottingham, I thank you!

I've got a mate whose just started cycling on the rubbish Hull roads. He's had more p*nct*res in a month than I've had in 10 years. I'll tell him to keep his eyes peeled for St Christopher.

Nice when people help out.

It might be your mate who helped me, he did have a puncture. Average height, short hair... 60+?

St Christopher won't help him with his punctures anyway, he takes his bike to the shop. Funnily enough I've been cycling in Hull for two months without any, but now that I've said that...
