I use the bristol to bath cycle track on a regular basis as my daily commute and it seems to me there is no law as regards horses and their droppings!!....lots of droppings! whils't I appreciate that it is organic in nature and presumably more nature friendly than the canine variety...it still annoys me to see it left unannounced directly my my path....am I alone in this (

You could always enjoy slaloming through it all! Or add some mudguards, and you won't need to care about them any more.

I ride a lot of single lane country roads and often find evidence that the lane is used regularly by horse riders. I just usually accept that this is part and parcel of riding down country lanes and use it as a warning signal that there maybe horse riders ahead. You can sometimes tell if they could be nearby by the freshness of the dropping.

Sloppy cow poop is worse, especially when the rider you are with rides straight through a big puddle of it and sprays you head to toe........

I'm never too worried about it on small tracks/lanes etc. Although it does miff me slightly in the middle of town etc.

If its near home, scoop it up and spread it on your roses...

But can you tell which way the horse was going, is it already behind you or are you about to lodge yourself head first in it's rear?

Why? It's still just horse poo... Pretty harmless stuff, unless you actually eat it by the spoonful.

Runner - just deal with it. Horse riders have every right to use a path designated as a bridleway, which I assume that path is. What 'law' do you think there should be, and how do you think it should be enforced? Bear in mind, before you insist that riders get off and clear up everytime, that it's often impossible to know when a horse is pooing, even when you're riding it...

I'd rather deal with some horse poo than some of the motorised morons out there...

Yes indeed, they should have to stop and pick it up! Unbelievable in this day and age that they can get away with just letting their animals cr*p all over the road!!

It's long overdue that something was done about this .:hyper:

Yeah, and we should make all wild animals wear nappies too...

I think horse poo is very very low down my list of worries on the road. When all the drivers are perfect, and there's no litter, and no animal or bird ever runs out in front of me (ditto pedestrians), and I really, really can't think of anything else, then I still don't think I could get worked up about horse poo.

It's basically just chopped up grass. Ride round it, and find something important to worry about.

Hi,

I have to admit that it irritates me.
I do find it comical that you can be fined £50 for a tiny dog poo, but a horse can dump a wheel-barrow full all over the road and that it's accepted.

A 'tiny dog poo' could turn a kid blind. Horse poo won't.

Also, the most dog poo is deposited in inhabited places, often where people run and walk, and kids play - like parks and pavements. Horse poo is generally dumped in rural areas, where few people are walking, and it washes away fairly quickly when it rains.

Horse poo is pretty harmless stuff - as harmless as mud. In fact, given the stuff sprayed on some crops, possibly less harmless than mud....
