my dad just tells them that it's too early for christmas carols and closes the door.

I like that!

We don't have callers here anymore. Most of the houses here are convered to numerous flats with entry phones so no one answers the communal door.

I did have trick or treat callers in the past but being a big scary man answering the door soon put them off. They never even came back for the sweets I had!

We always put a sign up on the door telling the trick or treaters not to bother, works a treat, no calls tonight.

We rarely get anyone.

Maybe those rumours about the acid filled pits have worked after all! <Evil Laugh>

Seriously though, I remember going out 'Guising' as a kid and we would go to neighbours and family friends, rarely anyone else, and we would tell jokes, etc.
It was more like a quick social visit than anything else.

The very last year I did it (aged about 11) however, it was with a school friend, and all he wanted to do was go to as many houses as possible and didn't care much about performing, because all he was told to do was to say 'Trick Or Treat', and give the poor unsuspecting sod at the door a choice - endure terrible schoolboy jokes, give us sweets or tell us to swiftly p**s off, which almost nobody did because they were too polite

I didn't feel comfortable whoring myself like that. To me, it was always a performance to selected 'friends', NOT about annoying unsuspecting strangers, which seems to happen so much these days.

Actually, I seem to remember him getting annoyed at me because I did a proper performance, and in doing so, I was wasting his precious time   I am now pleased that I did!:becool:

There are some right miseries here tonight.

Establish good relations with the kids on nights like tonight and they dont give you any grief in the years to come.

Trust me.....it works.

I miss having kids young enough to participate in Trick or Treating and Halloween parties. Halloween ranked number two in the birthday, Christmas, Halloween festivities ratings.

It was a joy to see their excitement build up as the bits and pieces came together for Halloween, the trimmings for the party, face paints, scarey poster painting sessions, cake making, costume making then the party itself and chaperoned Trick or Treating in a limited number of streets.

I loved the pumpkin carving - there's lots more scope for creativity than there was with the turnips from my childhood.

I particularly enjoyed scaring the living daylights out of a nasty brat who used to sneakily hurt my kids. It took his mother close on five minutes to calm him down after his fright. My enjoyment of the incident has lasted more than fifteen years.

I bought supplementary sweets tonight to augment those that I bought at the weekend. We only had five callers and I'm banned from eating them by my personal calorie ayatollah

All three offspring will be visiting this weekend so they are in for a treat.

Mischief night was the night before Bonfire Night when I was a kid.

There was no Trick or Treating - it hadn't crossed the pond then. But we did have carved swedes for Halloween.

Penny for the Guy activities seems to have disappeared. It used to be quite lucrative.

wow!

We only had five callers and we have a surplus of sweets left over. Our kids will be over for the weekend so the sweets won't last long then.
