I remember trying that with clipless pedals and then realised how hard it is to get both feet
in at the same time O.o

and how fast you decelerate in deep water! Feeling a bit frisky, plow into deep puddle, feet out comedy style, within a few seconds the water brakes have got you, stopped to a standstill and splash

Yes I was debating it and kept putting off the decision until about an hour before I was due to leave and just thought Oh sod it, it's only water!
However 12 hrs later at 1am when when my clothes and shoes haven't dried out (my new workplace has no drying cabinets, radiators, boiler rooms etc) I wasn't feeling so hardy...

Contemplating my commute home. Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more etc....

So why should I risk life and limb, why should I face the toils and dangers, etc...? Well, I have two other non-options.
First is to go by car. Given the experience of fellow commuters yesterday morning, this could take a couple of hours.
Second is to go by train. Given the availability of London Midland train drivers, and the risk of leaves blown around by the wind onto the track, and the propensity to flood my line, this isn't going to be much better.

So bike is the sensible option then. I will survive.

(rubber ducky on desk waiting. Will have to secure well).

Mr Summerdays set off this morning and returned about half an hour later deciding it would be better to work from home today!

Riding in was wet from above but my mind was too busy thinking about the bloody 40mph headwind to notice. On the way home I had far less wind (typical ) but half the back roads were under water. I think I submerged the BB twice, and the hubs got close on at least one occasion; though I lost count of the number of different submerged sections I just had to ride through.

Thankfully my high tech waterproofing (waterproof trousers with plastic bags on feet and waterproof jacket wih nitrile lab gloves over my normal gloves) kept me dry, but my shoes are going to take some drying out.

The silver lining is that the traffic jam from work was horrendous, so I've beaten my mate home by over an hour

Came across a 100 m long flooded stretch yesterday (complete with car in flooded ditch, 4WD trying to pull it out with several blokes paddling around). Decided I couldn't be bothered to go back the long way, but the water looked more than hub deep so I carried the bike through. Bloody cold - and very hard work wading knee deep!

This was our barn yesterday afternoon near Cleeve. Thankfully it had gone by 6pm, but the rising water knocked out the electric, so all by torchlight then.

Am expecting more tonight TBH

where were the pics taken Hov'r ?

Yes, it's still raining here, and such a short time after the flood water had receeded that I think we're going to get more floods again.

The pics were taken at various points around Gloucester, the first picture being from the bottom of Churchdown lane (base of Chosen Hill).

After the fun on yesterdays commute I decided to take an alternate route to avoid the floods..

Or not. That water is easily deep enough to swallow up a pair of 700c wheels.

Well, that was a bit epic.
Serious side winds trying to blow me off my bike, followed by head winds blowing me back up hill again, which wasn't half as bad as head winds almost bringing me to a complete stop. Then came the rain - serious stuff, not the heavy downpour from when I started. This stuff was coming down in sheets. Then a trip through the park in the dark with random twigs and bigger strewn across the path.
Then I took a shortcut that I had never explored before, in the dark. As bad ideas go, this one was pretty bad. I thought it would be just a quick trip over the bridge, and then straight on to the end of a cul-de-sac. Instead it was a quick trip over a bridge, followed by a dirt track barely wider than a bike with random branches sticking out, and a tree right across the path. Oh, and puddles varying from wheel size to several metres. All in the dark.

Got home, took off my gloves and poured water out of them. It was THAT bad.
