My Brother and his wife moved into their bungalow 16 years ago and set the thermostat at 26 degree's the heating has not been turned off since, nor down.
I will not be going to visit them!

My older sister's house is bad enough a few degrees below that. I really don't understand why people want their rooms heated to warmer temperatures in winter than they get to in the summer ...

Me dad was fretting the other day as he forgot to turn the central heating on for a little while a couple of times over the summer like the man from British Gas told him to last year when he fitted the new remote thermostat.

They do not move, when I go visit I have to keep checking them for a pulse. Remember this is the woman who records Corrie whilst watching it in case there is a power cut, yeh, I know.

MrsP would have had it on by now as she really feels the cold, even when it is not cold. But, there was several loud bangs from under the kitchen floor and the smell of burning wiring the other day, so downstairs electric sockets have been isolated and an electrician looked at it today for an hour and a half and will have to come back another day to have the floor up and rewire the utility room where the problem is.
So in a word, no. The heating is not on.

I read that and thought 'How silly - she could just watch it on catch-up', then I went off to do some bike fettling and suddenly realised that recorders don't tend to record very well without power - ha ha!

Mine went on for the first time this morning, just for an hour, as it's been blooming cold overnight these last few. I don't like being cold, when getting up for work, sets me off on the wrong mindset. Won't be putting it on in an evening yet though, far too mild still for that.

That brings back some unwelcome memoires of single glazed windows with metal frames - they seemed permanently ice covered inside and out in winter.

Didn't have central heating in a house where we used to live where it would go down to about minus 20 in the middle of winter, just had a huge open fireplace. Now we live in an area that doesn't get anywhere near so cold and we do have central heating but no need of it yet or the wood burner.

Childhood winter memories of ice on the inside of the bedroom windows, and freezing cold lino on the floor, if I got out of bed and missed the small bedside mat I was awake instantly.
