Hmm, it fell to 0.2 degrees outside overnight! That explains why it was only 11 degrees in this room when I got up ...
The metabolism factor is definitely significant ... I felt ok this morning with this room at just over 11 degrees and no heating on. 9 hours later after a cold bike ride and a warm shower, I feel cold with the room at 15.4 degrees! The heating is on but it takes quite a long time to warm the room up with the heating on minimum. I think I might give it a quick blast at a higher setting to get the temperature to 17+ and then turn it down again. It will maintain 17-18 degrees once it gets there.

I think food (or lack of it) might also be a factor. I ate some mixed nuts and raisins after my ride but I haven't had a proper meal since breakfast.

It is now 17.6 degrees in here with the temperature dial set to about 1/3 (it doesn't have actual temperatures marked on it). I have eaten a hot meal and now I feel very comfortable, apart from my feet which still feel a bit cold. I think I will go and find a pair of big woolly socks to put over the top of my compression socks!

I put it on for 20 minutes this evening as I knew Hubster would be cold after the ride home from dialysis. This flat seems very warm so far. Today was the first time we have had the heating on since we have been here.

Can we get all scientific about this? :okay:

Rather than arbitrary words like 'cold', 'hot', 'freezing' etc., could we use temperatures, preferably degrees C, but degrees F if you'd rather.

I think I am somewhere in the middle of the spectrum these days. I used to only put the heating on when it got below about 10 degrees C in my room. Nowadays, in the evenings I am keeping the room above 16 and below 19. My sister thinks below about 22 is chilly!

I am rather curious about whether people not yet using their heating do not mind the cold, have very well insulated properties, or are wearing about 10 layers of clothing!

7°C, windows open, why have the heating on.
Shirt & sweatshirt, trousers, one pair of socks.

My heating is still off, and I'm in Ayrshire (taking advantage of the tropical waters of the Gulf stream). I am using the gas fire in my living room, but as for the rest of the house, I am fine with it being slightly chilled. No idea what the temperature is. Once it feels cold to me, the heating will be on for a few hours per day (old style boiler with no thermostat other than on the boiler itself). As for clothing; well I just wear the same as I do outdoors but minus the jacket. That means jeans, T shirt, light fleece and a jumper. I cannot understand people who wander around the house in shorts and T shirt in winter, but insist on having the heating turned up to stupidly high temperatures to make it comfortable.

I am definitely feeling the cold more since I lost weight and developed circulation problems. I am okay below 10 degrees as long as I am actually on my feet, moving about and doing things. Sitting about using the computer or watching tv, I want a bit more warmth.

The outside temperature here is now 1.5 C and this room has stabilised at 17.4 since I turned the heating back to minimum.

Short of being desperately ill, I can't imagine ever needing or wanting a room to be heated above 19 degrees at the very most.
