It is all those damned irresponsible parents, they should all be licensed, taxed, insured, and have to pass a test of compentency before being allowed to reproduce.

On one of the BBC clips showing the riots you could hear some kids voices in the background "Lets go and get ourselves some watches"

Which is ironic, as they probably cant even tell the time!!

It's obvious to me: you reap what you sow. It comes as no surprise that there are tranches of society who think that violence and smash and grab is somehow OK. We live in a capitalist/media culture which focuses on instant gratification, the merits of conspicuous consumption, laudification of personal debt to the point that its mandatory - especially for young people - and crass materialism. That, coupled with a lack of opportunity (and the fact that it's the school holidays) has produced this mess. having said that I hate hate hate the tory response which seems to suggest that discipline is the answer. It isn't. It's dialogue, dispelling of ignorance and tackling the aforementioned rot at the heart of our institutions which is the problem.

Give them a couple of years breeding time and these type will be appearing on the Jezza Kyle show. She'll be some puddle of lard wanting DNA tests to determine which alsation is the father to her 8 kids.

I am sorry but you can not blame a materialistic society for the yobs who are currently destroying areas on the country. This is a symptom of the Nanny State we have had for the past 30 years. Children threaten teachers with Child Abuse charges if they punish them. Hoodies roam the streets causing mayhem "'cos they are bored and 'cos they want to" and the "cops can't touch them 'cos they know their rights". Their is rot at the heart of society and it is a lack of respect and discipline.

Excessive discipline creates the problem it tries to solve: it encourages subordination.
