I've got a smelly helmet..

I wash the foam bands, but the smell stays. My wife now refuses to let me bring it into the house. Do I need to buy a new one? Or is there some way of cleaning the styrofoam / polystyrene without damaging the integrity of this (some would say vital, others would disagree) piece of equipment?

Aggie and Kim type advice welcome.

Cheers

Febreze! I have to febreze everything the wife won't let in the house.

Put your rubber gloves on and give your helmet a good scrubbing. Vinegar and old newspapers work wonders for anything.

Can you do that for me lovie?

Is that A & K enough??? ;)

+1 for chucking it in the bottom of the shower - works fine. Do it once a week then you won't get a cheesy ..ahem... skid lid........

Soak overnight in a strong bleach solution and then scrub vigourously (inside and out!) with a scouring agent like Vim in the morning. Rub all over with half a lemon once dry and your helmet will look (and smell :-)) like new.
