I don't get ( and don't want to):

Make up, high heels, big hair, piercings, tattoos, McDonald's, boy bands, girl bands (?), impatient drivers, smoking, strippers, lap-dancers, pole dancers, prostitution, poodles (and other ponced-up dogs), eating shellfish, soaps, other people's holiday videos/photos, window shopping, sado-masochism, bungee jumping, rollercoasters, ironing, fake tans, fake breasts, ladyboys, expensive hifi cables, paying £53 million for a vase, bling, Mills & Boon...

Mind if I cut and paste that for the 'I do get' thread - save me typing it all out?

Which one? Costello's voice irritates me now. If I hear those whiny nasal tones once more, particularly combined with misty eyed couples claiming 'Alison' as "our song"...

My Wife (Alison) and I were talking about having this song at our wedding, until we listened closely and realised its about a bloke trying to persuade Alison to leave her husband for him......

Back on thread...the Beatles ok , as an early raw Beat combo, but after that nah !!

I go into a fight in Junior school (early '69) for saying the Beatles were crap....

Led Zeppelin.

I used to feel I should like Led Zep, but I don't any more. They were really little more than a load of session musicians led by a poodle, ripping off other people's tunes.

Neil Gaiman. I mean, I get it, but I do think he'e over-hyped. Tim Burton, too. And Star Wars.

Larkin. In fact, a lot of poetry I don't get, although I'm trying and I'm learning. I'm having a go at the Inferno, at the moment.

It's a bit more complicated than that...

A fourteenth-century Italian writing an epic that expounds Christian theology, based on an Imperial Roman epic. Not the most obvious place to start...

The early stuff is a bit of fun, but Lennon and McCartney were able to do so much more. Revolver is a great song cycle - up there with Winterreise and Liderkreis.

(srw makes an early bid for pseuds' corner...)

I get the impression that I'm the only person in P&L who doesn't find the Daily Mash funny. Not even remotely funny. Sorry.
