We got a brief respite from the rain yesterday afternoon when I was doing other things and couldn't get out. Now I have a free Sunday stretching ahead of me and it's pouring. Think I'll fit the mudguards and give the bike a good spruce up and maybe even nip down the road to see how well they work but as for going out for a proper ride.... I despair.

Maybe it's time to find a local Joe Bloggs gym and go and do some upper body work once a week?

another one who's shelved cycling in favour of doing indoor sport most days for the winter. Coming on as well, been asked to play for a team, got a match this afternoon in fact. Swimming in the morning as well before work to keep the fitness up when i get up in time.
Probably the other thing that keeps me going is that i'm spending quite a bit of time mechanicking swopping my bike over from my scott to the nice steel 531 that used to be my fixie, and the fact that my planned summer 2010 roadie events reads like a who's who of who's anybody.

Still MTBing at the weekend going though, trying to do every weekend - only missing this weekend 'cos i've got a match.
Was up your neck of the woods actually last weekend, gisburn forest. top loop's muddy (including the massive berms which have got lots of corrosion and a big wheel trap that people gone before have carved), but the bottom loop was good. Stayed at dog and partridge in tosside, absolutely superb place. It's basically a dedicated MTBers pub, probably one of the only ones in the country. Can't recommend it highly enough!

Also haven't ridden for 6 weeks, not even the mtn bike. Instead I've switched to running. I don't mind running in skanky weather but unless I'm commuting, the bike can wait until next year now.

Doing a fair amount of running as well, although with decent lights you can still ride in the dark whilst with running it is a little more tricky I find. I don't road run as it knackers your knees and calves for cycling. Grass running instead, it's a lot more forgiving on your joints especially if the ground is soft.

No, I don't road run, don't like it, it's boring. I run on bridleways, tracks and the beach and the Tesco 3W torch is quite good for running at night.

I also have a running partner, though he's out at the moment, injured. Split a pad on the beach and can't run

Another one here who's not been out for 6 weeks! Had a great trip to Uzes in the South of France at the start of Oct., then a visit from a cycling friend from NY involved a few rides........then nothing, mostly due to the weather. The worst thing is, the longer I go without, the more I'm inclined to refuse invitations to ride on the grounds that I haven't been out for ages. Booking a training camp for late Feb or early March is the rather expensive option I've chosen for many years as a way of getting some motivation back in the winter, as I then train for the training camp!

Well, I got out for 20 minutes in between showers and managed just over 5 hilly miles, just to try out the new mudguards. Home to strip off wet kit, make a cup of tea and relax by the fire with one of Mrs RR's chocolate cookies made with some cocoa I brought back from Ghana. Mmmmmm.

I found keeping up any kind of cycling routine through the four darkest months of the year is impossible, so this year I've signed up for the Silverstone Half Marathon in March.

I'm working to a proper training schedule (as is Mrs VC), and I paid a visit to Decathlon today to stock up on extra running leggings, silk gloves and a waterproof top.

At least this way when I do get back into serious proper cycling for next years sportives I will start with a better base fitness and a few fewer cream cakes around the middle.

For those who have lost the cycling mojo, my sympathy, but it can't be long before a crisp, sunny, wind and rain free Sunday turns up and the tingle returns.

It's raining up here in Leeds.
Doing weights and leg exercises at home.Should get me brownie points at the Hospital in a couple of weeks.Trying to rid the knee of fluid.
But not stopping the fluid outside though.
Quiet afternoon here the girls have gone to see that Moon-twilight film.

I have an image of you in a Fred Astaire Top Hat type of outfit... Or are they the more Ginger Rogers over the elbow length?

Never did get out on the bike today - managed a short walk around town, but as it including buying a pork pie for lunch, it's not really helped the calorie balance...

The top hat keeps blowing off, but the elbow length gloves I keep Mrs VCs role playing games.

The runners gloves are good for biking too, on a spring morning when it's a bit nippy I put them on under my fingerless mittens, then as the day warms up I can whip them off and ball them in my back pocket and ride with exposed digits.

Mmmmm..... Pork Pie, you know what that means coming from near Melton

It's the St Nicholas Fair this weekend in York and the speciality food market seems to be about 70% pies this year - cheese comes second, followed by spiced/flavoured booze... It makes for a dilemma, which flavour of pie, and then which stall to buy from - they are all apparently award winning. I had a nice venison one yesterday.
