I've never had a 'Subway'

I would like it if there were a genuine choice, rather than umpteen identikit branded chains that are essentially all peddling the same crap.

The choice is huge, the first choice is use them or not. I prefer the salad bowl rather than having the bread, but that is my choice. I have chilli in mine the better half does not, we both have the sweet onion sauce.

At about £3 including a cuppa I think they offer good value.

Never had one. And from the vile smell, which appears to be gone-off meat and preservatives, permeating from my local Subway I wouldn't want to either.

Is it a deliberate marketing ploy to pump out that stench from the back of the shop to the front door? Rather like those recorded sounds only young scamps can hear, so that they're dispersed from street corners; only this foetid stink draws them in and repels us others....

I choose not to walk through the haze at my nearest filling station, where a Subway concession is tagged on, and get my diesel elsewhere on the journey. As I drive by, I dream of the days when Dawn would slice off three man-slabs of ham from the bone and wire a wedge of cheddar off the block, douse the whole breaded brick in Branston and bag it up for my lunch, Keith's lunch, Geoff's lunch and all the other farm lunches in the queue at the now-closed village post office.

And according to my missus "It had a nice bit of salad on it sometimes as well" (Ladies Day, once a month, in summer only. Good old Dawn.)

Eat Fresh LOL

Of all the meats the Chicken one is the one that can get wheeled out the most days before binning, apparently.

I tried a salad bowl once it was a plastic tray full of lettuce

Did the normal dad thing the other time of saying like the picture.....

Simple, have the salad bowl without the lettuce, you have a choice. Be honest, what do you expect for £3 including a cuppa.

Quite dreadful
They are simply awful. I think that they have a patent for cunningly removing taste from all the ingredients. Have a McDonalds instead.

Before all these chains came along, each part of America had it's own type of sub sandwich. In some places they were called grinders, in other hoagies, in other parts filled rolls, poor boys, spukies, wedges, or gondolas. (Gondolas local to me, which my father always called golandrinas((swallow sp.)) made of ham, salami and sometimes bologna with american cheese and lettuce on sweet Italian bread). Recipe varied by locale.

Sometimes jobs dictate that you will at some point or even fairly often end up in a fast food outlet.
I have used Subway as a necessary evil, though I imagine it is not a particularly healthy option the food is ok & tides you over until a proper meal.
