Jeez how much effort does it take to have in place a real time stock & inventory link up with the web front end????

On a number of occasions I've placed orders with these guys for items that show as being in stock only to get an email telling me that the item isn't actually in stock and that my order has been canceled. What on earth is the point of processing my order and wasting my time if you don't actually have the stock and why send me emails telling me that you can order directly from the supplier when you can't?

And the telephone skills of your mail order team leave a lot to be desired too

My two penneth - the store may be fab but the on_line experience sucks!

I don't think it helps that their stock is spread over three stores (Sheffield, Chesterfield, Rotherham). It's not a great deal better shopping in person IME.

Thank you - somebody finally agrees with me. They should take a leaf out of Ribble's book who operate the web side of the business as a separate entity to the physical shop.

If you've ever been to one of their stores it explains a lot. They're a bit of a jumble sale. Lots of items scattered around in no particular order. Their prices are good and they'll do you a deal if you ask nicely.

Their website really bugs me though.

Searches return many items that are out of stock. If a 2008 model is out of stock then it's likely there'll be no more coming in seeing as it's now April 2009 ! so remove it from the site.

Phoning the shop is difficult too, which makes stock checking hard work. They're slow at answering and you get put on hold. Usually the only option for me is to spend £5 in petrol visiting the branches.

I ordered from SJS last time, item arrived within 2 days.

Nuff Said.

JE James have been on cycle chat before for exactly the same reason - stay well clear of them and shop elsewhere - I will never shop there again that's for sure.

I've also had a similar experience with 'bikesyoulike' from 7 orders, 5 were out of stock!!! Will never use them again now either.

although wiggle.co.uk have put their prices up and decreased their stock they still have the best customer service on the web IMO.

primarily they are an LBS not a mail order company. Likewise wiggle probably aren't that good if you want to go and browse bikes and parts in the flesh or get something fixed. Different shops for different purposes. If you put a CD in a record player you wouldn't expect it to play, would you.

They've always been fine with me and have some cracking bargains. No problem with returns either - refunds are quick. I agree with the web site not showing current stock though.

Hmph, I ordered a pair of bargain shorts from them about a week ago (online). I did check the stock level on the net after placing my order, and it had actually gone down by one - which left me with the happy illusion that all was well and the stock up-to-date.... Got an email today saying they are out of stock...grumble....And why does it take them that long to let me know? Have they been searching everywhere for a random pair of shorts? Admittedly, the stock level was pretty low when I placed my order - maybe in future I should stick to items where they supposedly have at least 25...
