I've noticed a huge increase lately, of mobility scooters on the roads.
Now, not only are they alot slower than your average cyclist, but tend to be wider also.
I'm wondering if they get as much sh1t from motorists as us cyclists do!

I don't know why, all of a sudden there has been this increase.

I've definitely seen more recently - that is, on the roads instead of the pavements. I saw one the other day, and I couldn't believe the care with which the car drivers were overtaking. Staying back, indicators on, then a wide pass. Wish they would do that to me!

I saw some report about them being increasingly popular. No tax/test/insurance/effort quicker than walking. Maybe before long bike thieves will be targeting them instead?

I saw one at lunch time being ridden/driven on the road doing an impression of a salmon.

Hey, don't knock them - at last a four wheeled road user we can hurtle past so close you could elbow them as well as shout insanely at them "you shouldn't be on the bloody road, you don't even pay road tax" then zoom off before they have a chance to confront us.

Early last year, me n two mates were driving back from an MTB Ride and rounding a corner to join the A1 Newcastle western bypass I saw one of those huge tow trucks driving very slowly off the A1 and another at the same dead slow speed about 20 yards behind both with their orange warning lights flashing......then double take...... In between them was a doddery old woman on her mobility scooter!!!
She must have gone down onto the A1 at the previous S-bound junction, down the parallel lane and luckily been spotted and escorted safely by the tow truck!

For those who know the area, she had come onto the A1 southbound at the A69 and off at the next junction toward B&Q - a very fast and accident prone section. Proper Mental

Mobility scooter riders do get a load of s***, I know because the same vociferous morons that rant about bikes at work also rant about them. The Daily Echo recently asked their readers if they should be "forced to take a test!" and have plates etc.

Well in south Yorkshire the police are offering courses to mobility scooter users.

There is a local dealer in Southampton who will give buyers a proper run-through and remind them of the highway code etc. I've seen users get caught out on some roads where there is no dropped kerb for x many metres.
