If you've literally not ridden for 20 years you may want to think about building up to a every day commute (e.g. 2 days the first couple of weeks, 3 the next and so on).
I have a 7.3 FX Disc. I have done a couple of thousand miles on it since March, pretty much without incident. All I have changed is the saddle to a Brooks and some higher reach handlebars. Just ride it and enjoy.
fear not Pikeman, I did 13.3 miles after a long break the other day and lived.Take it nice and easy enjoy the view(if there is such a thing) if you need to stop then do so. few weeks time you'll have smashed it.
