The enormous tarantula was probably eating the shield bug when it tried to put one of its fat hairy legs into your earhole

It dropped it when it ran away and hid.

Certainly isn't a vine weevil - wrong shape, particularly the head. Much more likely to be a species of shield bug.

Hecky-kopecky! There are more species in the UK than I ever thought; also a complicated series of stages before full adulthood for many.
