Just saw the bike of my youth on telly

On one these auction programmes, the one with the bloke who's deep oak in colour, walked in and hit record just in time because I've never been able to find a picture of this bike online, despite searching.

And here it is...

I can't tell you how excited I was to see it but my excitement didn't translate to son2, who said, it's a bike, dad.

Of course he didn't have the adventures on it I did. It wasn't him, age 13, that sneaked out the house early one morning and rode it 20 miles to a friend's house after asking and being forbidden to do so. Coming back in the dark, getting lost, having my Pifco wonder lamp jump off when I hit a bump, then sneaking back in and trying to be nonchalant about where I'd been.

Screaming around the grass squares outside my house, going faster and faster and leaning it harder and harder until it eventually slid away from me and I stood up. My reactions were quicker then or maybe I wasn't going as fast as I thought.

Taking it apart and learning to fix it, polishing the chrome with Brasso, racing it against choppers, doing my paper round, well actually it was a friends and I filled in.

Nope he didn't have the adventures on it, I did.

It eventually sold for 320 and despite me knowing it's called a Panther, I don't recall who made it but I'm happy to see it again: Chuffed now.

Brandane

The Costa Clyde rain magnet.
All sounds familiar, but mine was on a Puch Alpine. I took my nostalgia a step further!

Yours is a proper racer. The bike after my Panther was a Carlton Stadium, similar to your Puch. I've never seen a Panther, since my own. If I did I'm not sure I'd be tempted to buy one, definitely not for 320. The one thing I would like to know is who made it.

I felt for the poor chap who's Mum took the bike off him after an hour's riding as it was getting a bit mucky.
A good price for it at auction too.
I don't normally watch this but ITV was on and I saw the bike as I was hunting around for the remote.

Is that what happened. I missed the beginning. So it was his from his childhood then?

My cousin had something similar but that was a Puch Steyr.

It was a present from his Mum, he said and he only got to ride it for an hour then his Mum took it away and put it in the back of a large wardrobe. It was in the wardrobe that the chap found it when he was clearing out stuff. So he said.
I'd have nagged for my bike back long before I think.

I saw this this afternoon to. Was o'neil the make? I had one similar, not sure if it was a Panther but it was a Chopper copy of some sort. I used to jump mine off kerbs Evil Knievel style. The springs on the rear of the seat would always pop out and the seat would collapse. Great fun.
