Fitted a new shower a couple of years ago, when I re-plumbed/decorated the bathroom. New shower was 9.5KWH and above the existing 8.5KWH. Had to double check the wiring was 10mm to cope, it was.

Switched off the circuit breaker, double checked the shower and pressed ON - the shower turned on. Went down stairs, and the oven was off. The bloody builder has cross labeled the shower and oven !!!

If only you had left it to an expert.....

A customer of mine had similar..
his daughters New 650k house down south had all the trips incorectely labled..
a very long snag list was drawn up after he visited..
shocking..no pun intended lol

the first thing I did when I moved into my new house 2 years ago was to trip each MCB one by one and see what went off. Mainly because they were not labelled. I then labelled them appropriately. The little things in life are the most satisfying.

Was it on here I recently saw a post from someone who'd tracked down the root cause of a non-working appliance to the discovery that the sparks, while fitting all the mains sockets, had neglected to install any wiring behind them.

It was, and it was me referring to the experience of a cousin when he had an extension built. The moral being that when you want a tradesman, don't rely on the mate of a mate of a bloke you met down the pub.
