I'm sure this question has been asked (and answered) a gazillion times over the years but, I have just spotted 'in my Wife's Slimming magazine' an article about how one reader has recently taken up cycling and, in addition to the obvious weight-loss & fitness benefits, has found that it gives her a great sense of freedom.

What attracts you to cycling (Fitness/Well-Being/Cost saving..)? Personally, it was 'and still is 40yrs later' about the freedom of not relying on anybody else, being able to explore and having the time to just think without any interruptions :bicycle:

I started cycling as a kid, and just never gave it up. That's it.

Fitness, transport, fresh air, not sitting in traffic in the car...

I’ve never lost weight through cycling alone tho (have to cut food calories far in excess of the few hundred allegedly burnt through cycling?

Weight loss, which I have to say worked ^_^ Had something of a love/hate relationship with cycling over the years but always end up back in the saddle.

When I reigned in the financial output, the enjoyment factor went up! I had a pair of wheels that cost little less than an entire bike. I still have the bike as it happens

To get away from every day problems, clear my head and have some sort of fitness.

Ha Ha, I recently told my son that we used to build ramps and jump over our mates (well most of them) who would bravely lie on the floor.. His look of horror made me realise how much we must fuss over them these days! We laughed in the face of Danger

Hauling 19Kg of Raleigh Chopper up to speed to emulate Evel Knievel, then when it got too dark for that or footy, going indoors and playing with the Evel Knievel flywheel bike!

I'm not a nasty person but, I struggle to hide my smug look when using a local cycle path that runs alongside the regular 'nose to tail' crawling traffic jam that heads to the local Outlet Village every weekend.
You are forgiven.
I cycle over bridges on the m25 sometimes and must admit to a certain chuckle if i see a jam below. In truth, after having spent a fair bit of car driving time on it, very often even if the traffic is moving.

We've all been there. Used to love some of the stuff we got up to as kids. It was about the time of Kickstart, so a lot of the messing was home made trials.

As for fuss, I have had to actively encourage my lad to do skids on his bike and i've till not persuaded him to go over any jump or drops at speed yet. He's coming up to 7 so I'm getting worried that something is not quite right.

"Eejits! Ya Shoulda bought bikes!" :giggle:
