Grey wagtail! I've never seen one of those. We only get the pied wagtail here. The RSPB site tells me they prefer hills and streams, which is maybe why they've not visited us.
With the extended string barrier, I can report a second morning sans-mallards. I have also spotted 2 smooth newts in the pond this morning, so the ducks didn't get them, and a healthy number of tadpoles have survived the onslaught. I can't see any of the oxygenating plants, though. Surely they've not eaten that.....
