He was an okay Rally driver in terms of his peers, but he was extremely good at staged events,

is the first one he did, it grew into some pretty extreme sequences, if you are into car control & pushing them to the limit he was very good.

Unless you do something truly catastrophically awful, a modern rally car with its cage will mean you walk away from an accident. Not so things without cages like in this accident, quads and so on

It's not like he didn't have a good skill set with snowmobiles. The hill that it flipped on also didn't look anything out the ordinary

Not helped with him reportedly being on his own (or seperated from the party). Could have either been trapped or suffered a serious injury when it's flipped.
