Being a newbie to Kindles I suppose I may have made a bit of a boobie .

I bought some Kindle books intended as Xmas pressies :santa: for my #2 daughter but they were "delivered" (aka downloaded) to my Kindle. I tried to see if I could move a book to her Kindle by a drag and drop method but it didn't seem to work. Can I easily transfer these to her's? And if so how? Pretty please.

If all else fails I expect I'll have to lend her my Kindle

A book is tied to the Amazon account it was bought from. A kindle can only use one Amazon account at a time. You can log in/out of Amazon accounts but then it would only be showing books from each account.

However you can setup a family link between 2 Amazon accounts and pass books between them. This is probably your best bet.

A family can consist of 2 accounts (parents?) and multiple children. You set up the kids' profiles online. You can then add any books or apps to any of the profiles within the family group. Assuming the kindle is tied to your (or possible your spouses account?) they can login according to their profile and see the books you've added

If your daughter has her own Amazon account unrelated to yours I don't think you'll be able to share. Best bet would be to cancel order for refund and gift your daughter amazin vouchers to buy the books herself.

If you download Calibre (e-book library software) into your PC and use the DeDRM plugin, you can import your Kindle books and then send them to any e-book reader you care to mention. It's what I use to put Amazon purchased bikes onto my Kobo. The easiest way of getting your books onto your PC is to use the Kindle software.

This sounds like a good way.

I did a drag and drop with one book onto my PC before I put it on Dropbox for my daughter to move to her Kindle. Certainly the files went onto her Kindle but she can't see the book in her library in the usual way. So could she do your fix at her end using the files she has?

Yes. The plug in removes the Digital Rights Management gubbins that's preventing the drag-and-drop you've already tried from working. Calibre will also convert books from one format to another, so if you find a book from a supplier that deals in ePub format books, you can read them on your Kindle. A number of council library services have an eLibrary service that uses ePubs, for example.

That sounds brilliant. Thanks

There is also a simple "Send to Kindle" programme that allows you to send a file / document to any (or all) of your registered kindle devices, or tablet / phone running the Kindle App at the same time

I went down this route and couldn't make it work. After much fiddling I gave it up and went back to the Internet. I found Epubor which does a 30 day trial. Worked a treat :okay:

Next time I'll go the Legal route

That's a shame. Regarding legality, I'm sure that as long as you're only stripping the DRM off books you've legitimately purchased, that it's about as illegal as ripping your own CDs. But don't quote me on that.

Plenty of warnings out there about legality. Apparently Amazon "lease" these things and I suppose I ticked their T&C's. I'm not intending to flood the universe with anything I've stripped. So I think I'll be fine - not worth Amazon's bother.

Anyway thanks for your help :okay:

Amazon Prime allows Household Accounts where you can share most things including books and streaming of videos

There is also a simple "Send to Kindle" programme that allows you to send a file / document to any (or all) of your registered kindle devices, or tablet / phone running the Kindle App at the same time

Immediate panic over. So I'll sort this route out in slower time. Thanks
