I quite like the idea of moving to a river based naming convention.

There already is one:

Arundel
Ashbourne
Avonmouth
Cambridge
Camelford
Dartford
Exeter
Falmouth
Stourport
Stourbridge
Teignmouth
Thamesmead
Tynemouth
Wearmmouth
Weybridge

Well, it works for Barton-upon-Humber, which is only ''next to the Humber''
I wasn't around in the late 12th century when they called it Wkye On Hull.

I also wasn't about when King Edward 1st renamed it Kingston Upon Hull.

My only guess is with global warming and a lax attitude to local history, the Humber became the bigger of the two rivers, and the local population are more concerned with the complexities of pronouncing the words 'farv' or 'narn'....(5 or 9)
