Does this mean The Fred will use The Struggle as the first climb of the day? Kirkstone is a nice warm up for what's to come.

The Struggle? First climb at about 6.30am. 😱😱😱 I've planned to enter the ballot. This could be a foolish decision.

Just idly thinking about this. I've ridden The Fred once, the only time I've ridden Kirkstone. I've ridden the other climbs at least 2 - 3 times. Until I got to the top of Kirkstone I didn't know I was on the climb, I recognised the inn from a ride up The Struggle. I was pleased Kirkstone proved less challenging than expected and a good warm up for the day.

If The Struggle is used coming so early in the ride could create a lot of congestion. On my Fred the only congestion was on Honister and as the riders were by then widely spread although tricky it wasn't a major issue......apart from when the guy beside me toppled towards me. He got a foot down and I managed a tiny movement left.

That does look pretty bad. Last time it shut for cars it was safe for bikes but that looks much worse.

There was a similar road collapse at Kelston, between Bristol and Bath, which saw the road closed for more than nine months. They had to wait until they were certain that the subsoil was stable again and there was no risk of further slippage before they could even start the work.

The official diversion was about 14 miles but one local entrepreneur came up with a solution and built a 365 metre long diversion around the slippage, charging drivers £2 to use it. He was very popular with everyone except the local council ^_^
