Indeed. As I mind, they also had a metal ring on either side, one for the hank of rope, and t'other for the clasp knife.

Mine was more modern - but I remember seeing older ones that had those rings - never knew what they were for

as a point of interest - my Scout group was attached to the school and met after school on Mondays
As a reult on Mondays we went to school in Scout uniform ratehr than school uniform
At time this include carrying a knife because we needed one for what were were doing in Scouts
I used my Dad's old knif made from a deer foot - 4 inch blade
carried it around all day and no-one thought anything of it!

When I was about ten or eleven, my dad bought me a bone handle sheath knife. I carried it on my belt for a very long time. The only thing he said was that if he saw me threaten anyone with it, he would confiscate it.
Never happened; times change. :whistle:
Having said that, even now at 70, I still invariably have a decent pocket knife on me. It's a lifelong habit and many times has said pocket knife been useful - ! :okay:
